Downtown's Cookin' A 2012 Community Unity Event

On December 2nd, Rehoboth Beach Main Street hosted the first ever, Downtown’s Cookin’, a community cooking event, in the spirit of Community Unity. The event was held at the Convention Center and various local businesses and citizens donated their time and talents to help make the event a success. Santa was on hand for the children and various children’s crafts were provided by John and Joyce Michalek from the Bake Shoppe, Katie Freer from the Sprouting Chef, Elona Shaffert from Creatable Crafts and Heidi Lowe, from the Heidi Lowe Gallery. The Clear Space Theatre cast from A Christmas Carol greeted guests at the door. Entertainment was provided by the Tim Laushey Trio and the Barbershop Quartet from and the Rehoboth Inspired Chefs Initiative conducted a Pros vs. Joes Chopping Contest.

Local restaurants and citizens donated various dishes and desserts, including delicious main dishes, pizza, appetizers, homemade baked goods, ice cream and more! Visitors were able to sample all the available dishes, for one admission price, as well as receiving a goody bag full of great coupons and gifts from our local businesses.
To encourage shoppers to visit downtown Rehoboth on Sunday, Dec 2nd, Rehoboth Beach Main Street held a “Catch a Glimpse of Ginger” contest. Visitors had to spot Ginger in five different retail locations downtown. A drawing was held and the winner won over $2,500 in gifts from Rehoboth Beach businesses! The 2012 Catch a Glimpse of Ginger Winner was Jen McKean.

This year, we are using the proceeds to specifically target families in need in Rehoboth by raising funds to make the holiday season extra special. We will identify families through the Cape Henlopen School District and provide them with gifts, decorations and holiday dinners.
